It’s probably no secret that we have a special place in our hearts here at HubHack for Jamie. She is an exceptionally talented photographer, writer and all around wonderful person. Defining herself as “mostly” a hobbyist photographer and filmmaker, she takes on an occasional client and stock photography as well. When first married, Jamie and her husband experienced a 5 year struggle with infertility and miscarriage. Travel and photography helped Jamie work through her complex feelings and experience joy as she grappled with this particularly tough time in her life. Jamie and her husband, welcomed a beautiful baby boy in 2012. She now lives in Central Illinois, with her husband, three children. Baby Eilts #4 will make his or her debut this August!  As her family grew, her love for photography continued to grow as well and she found her subjects evolving from landscape and street photography to child photography. After learning manual mode, Jamie began to develop her own personal style and voice.

Jamie’s photography style is best described as creative storytelling. Her children are her main subjects and she loves to capture their everyday adventures. Her images express the fleeting moments of childhood in the most beautiful, magical and whimsical way.  Her use of low light, rich tones, and beautiful colors combine to tell the story of the everyday in the most inspiring way.

What’s in Jamie’s Bag

Jamie’s camera bag of choice is a Kamrette Lyra leather backpack.  She shoots with a Canon 6D, and her Sigma Art 35mm/1.4 lives on her camera most of the time. She loves this lens for its ability to include more of the environment contributing significantly to her storytelling.  Outdoors, her go-to lens is her Canon 85mm/1.4L. She loves this lens for the creamy bokeh it creates. Other lenses that she occasionally rotates in are the Canon 70-200/2.8L for shooting clients and sports and the Canon 24-105/4.0L for travel.  She dedicates a Canon 50mm/1.8 for freelensing. For her beautiful underwater photography, she uses a GoPro Hero 6 Black with a Telesin dome. For her drool-worthy drone images, she flies a DJI Mavic Air drone with PolarPro filters.

Jamie’s Inspirations

I love the way Jamie describes the inspiration for her work:

“I am definitely inspired by my children and their vivid imaginations.  I had such a wonderful childhood full of days running carefree and barefoot playing outside from sunrise until the street lights came on in the evening, and those fond memories definitely inspire me to try to recreate those feelings and memories for my own children in my photographs.  I’m also inspired by light and fun colors, beautiful landscapes, and nature. I also really love big skies and the ever-changing weather.”

Jamie is also inspired by the creativity and talent of some wonderful artists on Instagram:

Megan Loeks @meg_nlo

Anna Aromin @seldabelda

Lindsay @forestandfieldphotography

Courtney @courtneyathome

D’Ann @smittenandswoon

Jamie is a self described ClickinMoms breakout junkie.  She has been inspired by countless breakouts and finds that she is able to take little things from each one and apply it to her own work.  Two of her all time favorites are The Sincere Storyteller by Meg Loeks and The Optimistic Photographer by Karlee Hooper.
